When are the deadlines to apply for a grant?

The annual deadline to submit grant applications is the 2nd Friday of October. Applications must be submitted by 4:00pm on the deadline date. This year’s deadline was 4:00pm, Friday, October 10, 2014.

Will applications be accepted at any time?

Applications are accepted throughout September and October up until the deadline date.

What happens to my application after I submit it?

The Community Foundation’s Grants Committee will review and reward grants to local charities that align with the Community Foundation’s funding principles and clearly articulate the following:

  • Provide a direct service to the community
  • Benefit a wide audience
  • Present an innovative and creative approach to address a community concern
  • Strive to have a lasting impact on our community
  • Involve collaboration and partnerships
  • Build on existing community strengths and assets
  • Use resources efficiently and effectively
  • Are aligned with our funding principles

Unfortunately the demand for grants by our community’s local charities exceeds the Community Foundation’s annual funding capacity. In the event your application is not successful, we encourage you to reapply in the future.

What makes for a good grant application?

It’s important to complete all the questions on the application, and that you clearly articulate how your project or program will:

  • Provide a direct service to the community
  • Benefit a wide audience
  • Present an innovative and creative approach to address a community concern
  • Strive to have a lasting impact on our community
  • Involve collaboration and partnerships
  • Build on existing community strengths and assets
  • Use resources efficiently and effectively
  • In addition, make sure your application is received by the deadline, signed by two authorized signatories and includes all supplemental materials (i.e. list of Board of Directors, detailed project/program budget, most recent financial statement or annual report, relevant promotional materials if applicable).

Acceptance of late applications is at the discretion of the Community Foundation’s Grants Committee.

How long before a decision is made?

After the deadline date, the Community Foundation requires approximately four to six weeks to process the applications.

What happens to my application after the deadline?

The Community Foundation’s grant committee reviews the applications and submits its recommendations for approval to the Maple Ridge Community Foundation’s Board of Directors for final approval.

Does the Community Foundation provide funding for more than one year at a time?

The Maple Ridge Community Foundation may consider funding a multi-year project or program if there is a clear indication the grant will build upon the capacity and strength of the organization, and a clear sustainability plan has been included.

What is the average amount of a grant?

Grants awarded by the Community Foundation are typically in the range of $250 – $10,000.

Should I have other sources of funding for my project?

The Maple Ridge Community Foundation encourages collaboration and partnerships.

We are a not-for-profit, but not a registered charity. Can we apply for grants?

According to Canada Revenue Agency, a Community Foundation can only provide grants to Registered Charities, Registered Amateur Athletic Associations and Municipalities. Non-profits wishing to apply for a grant will need to secure an intermediary organization that meets these criteria.

Can an individual (i.e. researcher or artist) receive a grant from the Community Foundation?

Individuals are not eligible for grants.
