IN LOVING MEMORY OF
teesha sharma memorial
In 2020, the Maple Ridge Community Foundation renamed its “Citizen of the Year: Under 40” award to the Teesha Sharma Memorial Award, in tribute to a remarkable young leader whose life and work continue to inspire.
Teesha Sharma was the 2018 Citizen of the Year: Under 40 recipient, recognized for her tireless advocacy and mentorship of youth in our community. As a youth services program director at the CEED Centre Society, she dedicated her career to creating safe, inclusive spaces for vulnerable young people. She mentored unhoused youth, developed barrier-free programs, and was the driving force behind the creation of Blue Door Youth Services—an initiative that continues to serve those most in need.
Teesha’s voice resonated far beyond Maple Ridge. She was recognized at provincial, national, and international levels for her leadership in youth mental health and her groundbreaking advocacy against domestic human trafficking. Yet, it was her everyday acts of kindness—her empathy, her encouragement, her belief in the potential of others—that truly defined her.
Even while navigating personal adversity, Teesha showed up for her community with courage, conviction, and compassion. She is remembered not only for her transformative work, but also for her infectious laugh, quick wit, and unwavering spirit.
We are proud to honour her legacy through this award, which celebrates young leaders who embody Teesha’s values and carry forward her light. May her impact continue to ripple through Maple Ridge for generations to come.
